Michael Mangan, M.D.

Dr. Michael Mangan comes to Tallahassee from Chicago.

A graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia, Dr. Mangan received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore; he then completed his internship and residency in internal medicine from the University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was also a fellow in gastroenterology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Andres Rodriguez, M.D.

A transplant from Bogota, Colombia, via Michigan, Connecticut, and Illinois, Dr. Andres Rodriguez relocated to Tallahassee in 1994 from Chicago, where he served on the faculty of the University of Chicago Hospital's Gastroenterology section.

Dr. Rodriguez specializes in gastrointestinal disorders, but has two distinct concentrations: inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease. "What interests me about both of these areas is that they are fast-developing," he says. "It is an opportunity to apply new techniques and see patients responding to new treatments. Still, both have mysterious causes, and that creates fertile ground for a physician's innovation as well."

Dr. Rodriguez also places high emphasis on patient education. "In GI disease, the patient has a lot of effect on their own symptoms,” he says. "Lifestyle and diet are key factors. The fact that a patient can take an active role in their treatment is one of the most important factors that separate GI from other health specialties,” he says. "Patient education is vital because minor symptoms can make a major difference. For example, with early diagnosis, colon cancer is treatable, but if not diagnosed early, it can be fatal.".

Hardeep Singh, M.D.

Dr. Hardeep Singh began his distinguished medical career at the Armed Forces Medical College in his native India, where he ranked 30th among 20,000 medical graduates in the All India Post Graduation Entrance Examination. Upon graduation he entered residency at the preeminent A.I.I.M.S. teaching hospital in New Delhi, India, before coming to the United States for further training. He interned at the University of Health Sciences at the Chicago Medical School, completed an internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the State University of New York in Brooklyn.

Dr. Singh interest is in the field of Interventional Gastroenterology. He is trained in Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EUS) which is used for the diagnosis and evaluation of pancreatic and other GI cancers. Dr. Singh also specializes in therapeutic endoscopy for the treatment of malignant and benign biliary and pancreatic diseases [ERCP], endoscopic mucosal resections of large polyps, ablation and stenting of GI cancers.

Joshua Somerset, M.D.

Dr. Joshua Somerset is from Central Illinois. He completed his B.S. in Biology at Florida State University. He received his M.D. from the University of Florida College of Medicine. He went on to complete his Residency in Internal Medicine and his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Emory University. Dr. Somerset has broad training and interest in therapeutic endoscopy for gastrointestinal, liver and biliary diseases. He has been in practice in Tallahassee since 2006, is married with 3 children and enjoys spending time with his family.

Hong Gao, M.D., Ph.D

Dr. Hong Gao began her practice in gastroenterology after completing her Gastroenterology Fellowship at Yale University. In addition to general gastrointestinal diseases, her particular areas of interest include acute and chronic liver diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, Celiac disease, management of women’s gastroenterological issues and colon cancer screening.

Dr. Gao had many years of experience in academic medicine, including teaching and medical research. Her special research interest was in liver disease. She has been published in numerous medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. Her research has been presented in national and international meetings. Dr. Gao is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Dr. Gao believes that one of the most important skills of a physician is to listen to patients. She is passionate about providing health education to her patients as well as the general public. She actively supports and participates in patient support groups, such as Hepatitis C support group and Celiac Disease support group.

In her spare time, Dr. Gao enjoys reading, exploring nature and spending time with her husband and friends.

Manoela Mota, M.D.

Dr. Mota graduated from The Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC. She did her residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship training at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Her areas of interest include: women’s issues in GI, functional GI disorders including irritable bowel syndrome, esophageal pathology such as Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), liver disease and obesity, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis).

Dr. Mota is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. She is a native of Brazil who has been in the United States for the past 20 years and has found the perfect balance of nature, weather, diversity and community values in Florida which she is proud to call home. She enjoys travelling abroad and locally. On the weekends she you will likely find her in one of the Orlando Theme Parks or at one of the stunning Forgotten Coast beaches.

Her hobbies include baking, reading, and exercising. She lives in Tallahassee with her children.
